Footpath Trading & Outdoor Advertising

footpath trading

Footpath Trading

Council is committed to supporting retail traders in creating a dynamic and pleasant streetscape atmosphere.

It allows for outdoor dining including tables and chairs, screens, umbrellas, display of goods and temporary advertising signs on public streets.

The policy requires footpath trading to be on the kerbside of the footpath. This allows the front of the shops to act as a shoreline by providing pedestrian-friendly access to all persons and is consistent with the policies of many other Victorian Councils.

Please see the following page for further details, fact sheets and forms: Footpath Trading and Access Policy.

Outdoor Advertising

Our Outdoor Advertising Policy, governs all advertisements in public areas regardless of their location to the individual premises.  The following document provides a set of guidelines that will describe our policy in detail:  Outdoor Advertising Policy (PDF, 3MB).

Signs & Goods on Footpath

So as to ensure clear access for pedestrians, traders must obtain a permit from the Local Law Department in order to display an A-frame (or similar) sign or merchandise on the footway.

See the following page for details:  Footpath Trading and Access Policy.
