Brine St

Need a child care centre to look after your kids? Why not consider the Brine St Child Care Centre?

The Council-run Hughesdale Centre offers 60 places and offers an educational and care program for babies to children aged 5 years.

The Centre is committed to innovative, quality care for all the children and the National Childcare Accreditation Council in December rated it as 'high quality' across all seven quality areas.

The Centre currently has a number of part-time places available. Enrolment enquiries can be made by phoning 9579 0903.

Street Trees Consultation

Council has started a conversation about street trees and trees in public reserves and we want to hear your views.

We've prepared a special survey for all residents to take on our website. Go to www.monash.vic.gov.au, or pick up a hard copy of the survey from your local library, the Glen Waverley Civic Centre or the Oakleigh Service Centre.

The survey will be available throughout June, so make sure your voice is heard.

Sir John Monash Awards

Do you know someone who deserves recognition for their hard work in the Monash community?

Now is the time to get your nominations in for the annual Sir John Monash Awards and pay tribute to those who work tirelessly in their local area.

Presented each year, the Awards give Council a chance to recognise the dedication of our valuable volunteers, whether it's the local footy club volunteer or your neighbour who delivers our meals-on-wheels.

For more information, or to nominate someone you know for the award visit www.monash.vic.gov.au or phone 9518 3509.

NAIDOC Week

In the first week of July, Monash Council will celebrate National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee Week, or NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC Week provides a special opportunity each year for all Australians to celebrate and honour the ancestry and history of the place we all call home.

Events taking place in Monash will include a contemporary Indigenous artworks exhibition at the Highway Gallery and an Aboriginal Flag Raising Ceremony and Smoking Ceremony at the Glen Waverley Civic Centre on Monday, 4 July.

For full details on NAIDOC Week activities visit www.monash.vic.gov.au/macd, or phone 9518 3636.

Community Grants

Calling all Monash community groups, organisations and local emerging artitsts... now is the time to get your applications in to share in more than $2.2 million in cash and in-kind support as part of the 2012 Monash Community Grants Program.

Council will host three information sessions on the grants application process, including submission writing tips.

The sessions will be held on the June 15, June 20 and on July 18.

Visit Council's website www.monash.vic.gov.au or phone 9518 3551 for more details on the Community Grants or 9518 3569 for information on the Arts Grants.

Footpath Trading

You will soon notice some changes in the way footpath trading takes place in Glen Waverley and Oakleigh, excluding Eaton Mall.

Monash Council has approved a new Footpath Trading and Access policy, balancing the needs of both traders and pedestrians.

The new changes will make sure everyone gets a fair go on our footpaths and can continue to shop, dine and visit our thriving shopping strips.

To find out more about the policy or to download your own copy, visit Council's website www.monash.vic.gov.au or asked to be transferred to the Economic Development Unit when your call is answered.
