Future Vision
Ongoing Research and Marketing
Context
It is important not only to address local economic development issues, but also promote the ways Council is dealing with them and research what businesses are concerned about and what other Councils are doing. The local community should also be more aware of Council's economic development services.
In a competitive environment, it is vital for Council to market Monash's distinctive advantages to retain strong existing businesses and encourage their expansion, as well as attract exciting new ones.
Key Actions
In response to these needs and issues, Council will:- Enhance the Monash economic development website by linking it with other key business websites such as the Institute of Company Directors, Small Business Victoria, and the American Chamber of Commerce
- Provide a marketing brochure on the services offered by Council's Economic Development Unit
- Maintain a distinctive economic development promotional display at Council offices
- Highlight Council achievements in economic development through promotional opportunities such as at seminars and conferences
- Establish and market an annual calendar of Monash business events
- Advocate on behalf of the local business community to State and Federal Government
- Survey businesses representing different industry sectors and different sizes about the strengths and weaknesses/problems of Monash, and how to address them
- Provision of feedback to Council on business issues at Forum meetings
- Establishment of a sub-committee responsible for going out and finding out what other Council economic development groups are doing to foster their business communities
