Economic Development Strategy

Executive Summary
The City of Monash Economic Development Strategy 2008–2012 is designed to facilitate investment, business growth and employment opportunities in the municipality.
It contains an economic profile of the City of Monash within Melbourne's South East Region, an outline of recent developments in the municipality, projects undertaken with stakeholders and a summary of key economic issues as well as identifying competitive strengths and advantages.
- Providing information and support services to business
- Supporting further education and training
- Encouraging environmental sustainability practices within business
- Supporting a cluster of "high technology enterprises"
- Facilitating new business investment
- Encouraging further growth in Monash's activity centres
- Providing ongoing infrastructure development and management
- Researching and marketing economic development initiatives
These include business and property services, information, communications and multimedia technology, research and development, entertainment, culture and recreation and a growing home-based business sector resulting in both import replacement and export delivery, increased growth in the service sector and a range of educational experiences with stronger links between business and the tertiary educational organisations.
Delivery of the Strategy will be through Council's Economic Development Unit whilst performance measures will form the basis of an annual review.
