Infectious Disease Management
Minimising the spread of infectious disease is a major factor in maintaining the community's health and safety.
Council Environmental Health Officers investigate cases of infectious disease to prevent the spread of the disease to the wider community. The officers regularly inspect ear and body piercing establishments, tattooists, beauty parlours and hairdressers where strict infection control measures must be maintained.
Council officers also regularly analyse water samples from public swimming pools and spas to ensure that water quality meets the relevant standards.
Sub standard housing conditions and overcrowding can lead to the spread of communicable diseases. Council can inspect housing to ensure acceptable standards are maintained.
Rodent control, animal management and health education are other important roles Council performs to prevent the spread of communicable disease.
