Charlotte Baines

Charlotte is currently serving her second consecutive term on Council. She was first elected in the November 2005 elections and re-elected in the November 2008 elections.

Charlotte served as Deputy Mayor from 2008-2009. On the 9th December 2009 Charlotte became the youngest female mayor in the city's history at 27 years of age.

She has lived in Mulgrave Ward her entire life. In professional life, Charlotte is a qualified lawyer and PhD candidate in the Sociology Department at Monash University.

As an experienced Councillor in the City of Monash, Charlotte believes in open and transparent government that actively engages the community in key decisions making processes and goals.

"I believe that a successful government is one that focuses on improving relationships both within and between various groups, and delivering services that meet the needs of our diverse and ageing community."

During her time on Council, Charlotte has worked hard to develop a Youth Advisory Committee and a Fair Trade Committee to improve community engagement with our younger residents and business community on issues of social justice.

Her priorities include:
  • Keeping Rates as low as possible
  • Opposing inappropriate development
  • Improving Community Engagement

Prior to being elected to Council, Charlotte served as volunteer for the Port Philip Community Centre and a Board member of the St Kilda Legal Service.
