Councillor Banerji is the mother of three school-aged children and has completed a degree in Community Development at Swinburne University.
She was elected Mayor for a second term in November 2005.
A fitness enthusiast, her hobbies include working out at the gym and running. In fact her whole family is sports loving with her children all involved in a range of sports and athletics.
Her studies have been a strong influence on her areas of interest as a Councillor.
"I'm looking forward to the challenges of my second term on Council," she says. "I believe the new group of Councillors provides the right mix of abilities and experience that will hold Monash in good stead over the next three years.
"My interests continue to be in the welfare of the growing number of older people within our Municipality, as well as the issues surrounding cultural diversity that come with the demographic makeup of our City. These have been, and will continue to be, a focus of my time on Council.
"I would also like to continue to lobby for better services for individuals and families affected by problem gambling, which continues to be a significant issue in Monash."
