What you can do!

Greenhouse gasses are produced from many and varied sources, the most common being the burning of fossil fuels such as petrol and coal for transport and energy production.

If we want to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, we must focus on the amount of energy we use. Unless we act now to cut our emissions, our climate will continue to change.

We can reduce energy-related greenhouse gas emissions in a number of ways, both at home and work.

Be more Energy Efficient
  • Switch off appliances at the power point
  • Choose energy efficient appliances
  • Use less hot water
  • Use energy efficient or natural lighting
  • Insulate your house to reduce cooling and heating needs
Choose green energy
  • Choose Government accredited GreenPower
  • Install solar hot water systems or solar panes for electricity
Minimise private car use
  • Use public transport
  • Carpool to work
  • Walk or cycle
Choose a fuel-efficient or Hybrid car Reduce your waste
  • Compost all organic waste such as food scraps and garden waste
  • Choose items with less packaging
  • Reuse items such as glass jars and plastic bottles where and when possible
  • Recycle plastics, paper and metals where possible
