ICLEI Cities for Climate Protection Australia (CCP Australia)

The City of Monash joined the Cities for Climate Protection in 2001 to address climate change issues through a milestone framework where councils can analyse their local sources of greenhouse gas emissions and strategically implement projects to reduce their contribution to global warming.
Milestone Framework
  • Milestone 1 - Establish an inventory and forecast for key sources of greenhouse emissions for councils and communities.
  • Milestone 2 - Set goals to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Milestone 3 - Develop and adopt a local greenhouse action plan to achieve emission reductions.
  • Milestone 4 - Implement greenhouse gas action plans and quantify benefits.
  • Milestone 5 - Monitor and review action plan and highlight the effective work done in reducing emissions and saving money.
The City of Monash has achieved Milestone 5, the highest level before CCP 'Plus', with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15% of 2000 levels and by 10% of 1996 levels by 2015.
