Green Renting
As a renter, greening up your lifestyle may seem difficult. However, there are many tips that you can follow to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Choose a rental property that is close to your workplace, shops and other facilities and this will cut your dependency on cars and reduce emissions.
- Draught proof your home by using inexpensive draught sealers
- Install energy efficient light bulbs
- Take shorter showers
- Use containers to grow your own fruit and vegetables
- Replace your showerheads with the permission of your landlord
- Switch to government accredited GreenPower www.greenpower.gov.au
- Shop sustainably and choose recycled and reusable products
Make improvements at your rooming house - Save money save energy
If your property is a registered Victorian Rooming House you are eligible to apply for a free energy and water assessment and retrofit.
The Rooming Houses Project provides free energy and water assessments and upgrades to common areas of registered rooming houses.
The project offers three main benefits to landlords and their tenants including:
- reduced energy and water usage
- improved amenity and comfort - houses are warmer in winter and cooler in summer
- improved environmental outcomes
