Habitat Restoration

Monash Council is engaged in the restoration of local waterways.

Read about Habitat Quality (Flora and Fauna section).

Gross Pollutant Traps

Monash Council have installed multiple gross pollutant traps within the stormwater system to collect the rubbish that is discarded on the street. The traps are designed to collect small amounts of rubbish before entering the local waterways.

Often rubbish will pass through Gross Pollutant Traps during high flow periods and when there is an excessive amount of pollution. It is therefore essential that rubbish is disposed of in the waste system rather than in the stormwater system.

Recently the Gross Pollutant Trap at Bogong Reserve was upgraded to help avoid the pollution in the Bogong water body, which leads to Scotchman's Creek.
