Reducing Waste - What you can do

Clean up Australia Day

Think before you buy:

  • choose products with least packaging
  • buy in bulk
  • use green or cloth bags or re-use plastic shopping bags
  • plastic bags can be re-used as bin liners
  • choose items made from recycled material
  • reuse products such as jars, plastic and glass bottles
  • choose Australian made and or local products
  • participate in the Council's 'Follow Your Recyclables Tour' in November each year

Recycle non-biodegradable waste:

  • hold a garage sale or donate unwanted items to charity
  • organise free pickup of unwanted items

Recycle organic waste

Other waste reduction tips:

  • place a 'no junk mail' sticker on your letterbox
  • limit excess printing: set double sided as default printing, print 2 to 1 pages, reduce font size from 12pt to 10pt and re-use one sided paper.
