Why save water?
Although Melburnians are now more 'water wise' than in the past, our overall consumption is still increasing due to the increasing population. Our current supply system will not be able to keep up with this - the average demand per person still needs to be reduced.
Rebates are available from the State Government for household water saving products.
Contact your local water authority for details (Yarra Valley Water 131 721 or South East Water 131 867).
Reducing the amount of hot water used can also reduce energy use and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions that promote climate change. Saving water can also save money.
How much water does the City of Monash use?
Approximately 230 ML of water was used by Council between July 2006 and June 2007. Council's efforts to reduce water use in 06/07 have resulted in a decrease of over 34% or 120 ML when compared to the 05/06 total. The Council uses the water in the performance of a large array of activities.
