Settlement Story - Greek

I was born South Greece where I lived for 18 years.

I left in 1962 to come and live in Australia with my brother and sister. In Greece I had been working as a dressmaker and was able to get a job working in a factory in Prahran.

I met my first husband in Australia, we were married for 6 years. During this time I had my first son. After my marriage broke down my son and I moved to Chadstone to live with my brother.

I had made some very good friends during my time in Australia and they introduced me to the man who would become my husband. We were married in 1973 and had my second son in 1974. I was, and still am, in a very happy marriage, my husband is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Over the years I have joined a number of Greek clubs so that I can maintain my heritage and my connection with other Greek people. I have also joined a number of community groups.

I chose to come to Australia so that I could have a better life. I have found that Australia has given me everything that I could ever hope for and more, it has given me my family, 2 beautiful grandchildren and my friends, I call Australia home.
