Browsers Versions

The City of Monash web site has been developed to display correctly on all commonly used browsers, including text browsers.
Best results will be obtained using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x, Mozilla Firefox 1.5.x, Netscape Navigator 7.x or Opera 8.x.

Majority of our web site users are using Internet Explorer 6.x and Mozilla Firefox 1.5.x.

The site functions without the use of JavaScript (exception: "Monash Maps", "Create a Map" and "Victorian Business Information").

Browser Requirements for Monash Maps and Create a Map

Please Note:
  • Cookies must be enabled on your web browser;
  • Popups must be allowed - this is for Map Printing in Create a Map, and the Help System;
  • Active X and JavaScript must be allowed by your security settings;
  • The browser must support the display of images.
Recommended Browser Requirements
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x and Mozilla Firefox 1.5.x;
  • 1280x1024 screen resolution;
  • 32bit True Colour.
Minimum Browser Requirements
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and above;
  • 800x600 screen resolution;
  • 16bit True Colour.

Screen Display

The site has been designed to appear best on a screen configured for 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 display using 32bit True Colour.
For instructions on changing your desktop settings, refer to Help within your Browser.

The pages are using style sheets, but they display correctly readable without style sheets, if viewed through older or text browsers.

Fonts - we are using relative size fonts, what means that you can change their size in your browser (make them bigger or smaller). E.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox toolbar - View, Text size.

Navigation

There are two main levels of navigation. The MAIN navigation appears at the top left hand side, and the SECOND level of navigation is placed under the Main Navigation.

If you feel lost, you can find the navigation structure to where you are browsing at the top on each white part of the page. New site structure - read more.

Web Site Search

A Site Map and an A-Z Index are provided to display the site layout and contents. Search functions enable different types of searches for different skill levels and preferences.

  • Site Map - top right hand side and ' Footer' (every page)
  • A - Z Index - top right hand side and ' Footer' (every page)
  • Search - top right hand side and ' Footer' (every page)

Keyboard Navigation

All major pages are accessible through the custom keyboard shortcuts developed for this site. When the user is holding down the ALT* key on the keyboard and then the corresponding key, followed by Enter, the focused is moved to the page that uses this access key:

[Alt + C]    Contact us

[Alt + M]    Site Map

[Alt + S]    Search

[Alt + O]    Online Payments

 [Alt] is a default key for shortcuts for the MS Windows. Please check the key, if you are using different operating system.

The TAB key can be used to move between other navigation links.

Viewing and Downloading PDF Files

Some documents within the site, such as application forms, permits or Council Reports, are saved in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader Software installed on your computer to be able to read or print these brochures.

The Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free at the Adobe website.
