Da Chos
Da Chos is a multicultural collective inspired and founded in Latino culture, its people and its music. The result is a unique fusion of upbeat and energetic sound mixed with traditional instruments and arrangements.
Jorge Chaparro (guitar, vocals) Maurice Chaparro (percussion, vocals) Henry Chaparro (lead vocalist, percussion) Dave Melgaard (trumpet) John Gluyas (trombone) Javier Ruiz (percussion) Felipe Ruiz (percussion).
The band was formed in 1992, bringing together talented musicians who performed regularly across Melbourne's live music scene. A unique sound featuring a funky groove with a touch of Latin American spice was soon formed from an incorporation of fresh vocals, guitar, percussion, trombones and trumpet.
The songs are versatile, young and fresh. The rhythms are addictive and aim to encourage everyone to dance. The music style ranges from romantic ballads to reggae, merengue, salsa and even mambo. Lyrics poetically combine the English and Spanish language and inspire the fondest emotions and memories.
