Dear Swim School

Pool

Over the past six months we have been looking for ways to improve our Swim School. These commenced with the development of our Mini Minky's program, were we introduced age based appropriate skills to each level and created the Starfish Transition classes to assist with the progression of Mini Minky swimmers into the Minky Learn to Swim (LTS) program.

Over the past term we have implemented further improvements to the Minky LTS program, with a key change being the introduction of a new level and fi ne-tuning of the skills within each level.

The new level has evolved from the Starfish level being split into two separate levels - Starfish and Jellyfish. The Starfish classes will now allow a more comfortable focus on water awareness and confi dence, with Jellyfish providing stronger attention towards the development of swimming fundamentals.
Jellyfish

All levels have undergone modifi cation to provide a more enjoyable and smooth transition through the Minky LTS and beyond into our Team Minky squad program.

At the end of this term all Minky LTS swimmers will be given a new skills poster with the updated levels and skills. Mini Minky swimmers will receive certificates highlighting their achievements.

The Aquatics team encourages any feedback you have regarding the changes, please see reception to receive and complete a customer feedback form. You may email your feedback to marc@monash.vic.gov.au.

We look forward to seeing the changes in action and trust that they will be benefi cial to the progress of all students.

Swim well,
Aquatic Program Team

What's happening at MARC?

50m pool redevelopment

As part of Monash City Council's investment in infrastructure and community facilities, the Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) is excited to be redeveloping the outdoor 50m pool.

It is planned that the works will conclude and the pool will reopen at the start of November. We will be able to communicate a more specifi c date to all members in the coming weeks.

MARC is working with Yarra Valley Water and within water restrictions under an approved "Water Conservation Plan" to save water to refill its pool.

The $620,000 upgrade has been made possible through Council's investment of $250,000 in the project and the Australian Government contribution of $370,000 through its Community Infrastructure Program. The Community infrastructure investment has been a key component of the Australian Government's $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan that will help support Australian jobs.

New family change rooms!

The improvements to the family change rooms are complete!

We have doubled the number of change rooms available to families to assist congestion during our peak periods.

Over a four-month time span we have constructed two state of the art accessibility change rooms in the Warm Water Exercise Pool area and developed the original accessibility change rooms into four family change rooms.

This has provided an improved and more dedicated area for people with a disability, and increased the facilities available to the Centres families.
