Christmas Cheer For Welfare Groups

Monash Bulletin - Christmas 2006
Christmas Cheer For Welfare Groups
Five Monash church and welfare groups will provide Christmas lunch for residents following Monash Council's decision to provide funding for the project.
The five groups who applied for funding will receive up to $2,000 to help them provide the lunches which will largely be directed to the marginalised and socially isolated.
- Church of Christ Fellowship of Clayton (four churches, 290 guests) - requested $2,000, granted $2,000.
- Anglicare Dixon House (100 guests) - requested $2,000, granted $2,000.
- New Hope Foundation (100 guests) - requested $2,000, granted $2,000, plus free hall use.
- Catholic Parish of St Peter, Clayton (130 guests) - requested $2,000, granted $2,000.
- Monash City Church of Christ, Glen Waverley (90 guests) - requested $500, granted $500.
Cr Stephen Dimopolous, who worked with the groups on the funding, said it was an important role for Council to help the most vulnerable in the community.
"We have a duty of care to those who for any number of reasons may be socially isolated and this is a small way of helping those people participate in the spirit of Christmas," he said.
