Councillor Manzie was elected Deputy Mayor at the 5 December special meeting.
A Councillor since December 2005, Councillor Manzie is husband to Roxanne and father to 7-year-old daughter Caley.
Councillor Manzie said his 15 years experience in the insurance sector, specialising in customer service and finance administration, was a valuable background to an effective role as a Monash Councillor.
Cr Manzie is active in motor sport, plays golf and makes a point of attending his daughter's school activities. A passion for the Australian outback led to a family trip in 2001 for nine months, travelling 60,000 kms by caravan. He is committed to the preservation of native vegetation and has set a goal to undertake further studies in youth services.
Christmas Greetings From Monash Mayor Cr Tom Morrissey
It is with considerable pride as your newly elected Mayor that I call on our community to celebrate this festive season in a spirit of conciliation and mutual support.
Monash is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse Cities in the State. We also cover the full range of social and economic circumstances. I believe we can best illustrate and celebrate that diversity by drawing together, particularly at this time of the year traditionally devoted to family and friends and community.
As residents of a City with a strong record of community engagement, the people of Monash are in a position to extend the hand of friendship and neighbourliness and social inclusion to those who are isolated by cultural or economic or other personal circumstances.
Despite our fortunate circumstances by comparison with many other communities, there are those within our City who need your support and your understanding and your caring, especially at a time when their own situation makes them not just disadvantaged but among the most vulnerable in our society.
To all residents of Monash - have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and a prosperous New Year and remember to be safe on the roads, in the water and among yourselves.
