Poetry Alive! With Catherine Bateson

Spotlight on Allan Campion - Writing about food

Allan Campion has been involved in the local food scene through writing cookbooks and food guides since the early 1990s. He is also a food consultant and hosts culinary tours, cooking classes and demonstrations.

Short Story Competition

If you fancy entering the annual Short Story Competition there's still time to submit your entry!

Competition closes Friday, 30 June. Winners will be announced at the Winter Concert on Sunday, 20 August at the Civic Centre, 293 Springvale Rd, Glen Waverley.

Exhibition of Aboriginal Artworks - NAIDOC Week 2006 in Monash

This exhibition showcases the talent of Worawa Aboriginal College, Senior VCE Studio Art students in Healesville. In their work they capture their sense of Aboriginal heritage, culture and identify through a variety of mixed media. Accompanying the exhibition will be a multimedia presentation of life-size puppets and a series of cultural activities.

 Held at The Highway Gallery, 12 The Highway, Mount Waverley. The official opening is at 2.30pm, 1 July, until the 13 July.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11am - 5pm, Sunday 1pm - 5pm.

To Buy a Fat Pig: Tim Webster

In this unique exhibition, photojournalist and documentary photographer, Tim Webster presents and authentic insight into the vibrant, thriving, cosmopolitan emporium that is the Queen Victoria Market. To Buy a Fat Pig features 40 colour photographs that reflect a deep respect for an institution that has endeared itself to Melbournians for over 125 years.

Held 23 June to 20 August 2006.

Pruning Works
Council prunes 100,000 street trees on an annual cycle. The two areas are to commence in July are Hughesdale, bound by Poath Road, Princess Hwy, Warrigal Road and North Road. Also the Burwood and Ashwood areas, bound by Warrigal Road, Highbury Road, Huntingdale Road and High Street.

 If residents are aware of any street tree that requires urgent maintenance please call 9518 3555.

Looking through the keyhole for accessible housing

Comedy writer, producer and performer, Rod Quantock, will add a unique perspective to the vexed question of people with disabilities accessing appropriate housing when he acts as facilitator for a forum on the issue later this month.

Guest speakers Wendy Verhegan from WINACCOM, a group of parents whose adult children all work at Waverley Industries; a representative from AMID (Action for More Independence & Dignity in Accommodation); and a spokesperson from The Disability Housing Trust. A light lunch will follow the discussion.

Held on Friday, 30 June, from 10am - 12noon, at the Civic Centre, 293 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley.
