Shearer Throws Down a Challenge at Glen Waverley

The first element of the Master Plan for redevelopment of the Glen Waverley Golf Course was opened to the public on Saturday 3 June.

The Bob Shearer-designed new 1st green has been completely reconfigured to include bunkers, slopes and a water feature. The rest of the Master Plan is expected to be progressively completed over the next 5 years.

Winner of the Australian Open in 1982 and 22 other professional tournaments around the world, Bob Shearer is now an internationally acclaimed golf course architect.

"It was an interesting challenge and is the start of the process to upgrade this course so it attracts and holds good players who want to be tested," he said. "This is just the beginning and I look forward to seeing the Master Plan unfold for the benefit of all who play here."

Club Captain Bob Always said the Glen Waverley Golf Club had been waiting with much anticipation for the opening of the relocated 1st hole, which is about 25 metres longer than the original.

"We look forward to the challenges it presents," he said. "In time, I believe it will become the signature hole for this course."

If you are interested in experiencing for yourself the new first hole and all the other facilities of the Glen Waverley Golf Club, just drop in to see us at the corner of Waverley Rd and Jells Rd, Glen Waverley, or call the pro shop at 9560 7806. You will be most welcome.
