A Great Place to Horse Around

Drummies Bridge Reserve in Glen Waverley may be the last remaining area reserved for horse riding within Monash but it also now has a full competition size arena for the first time.

Located on High Street Road adjacent to Dandenong Creek, Drummies Bridge is home to three equestrian clubs: the Monash Pony Club, Monash Adult Riders and the Nunawading and District Horse and Pony Club. These clubs cater for more than 180 participating families, including both horse owners and young riders.

The improvements to the reserve include:
  • an upgrade of the outdoor riding, gravel arena areas and adjacent parking areas to provide all weather use
  • extension of the sand arena to full competition size
  • extension of the current pavilion facility to provide additional meeting space, additional toilets, disabled access and an additional veranda on the northern aspect of the clubrooms to provide undercover viewing for spectators to the all- weather and sand arenas.

The three clubs contributed to the project through in-kind contributions in the form of many man-hours and donated trade equipment hours. Council contributed $30,000 to the project, in addition to a Sport and Recreation Victoria 2004/2005 Community Facilities Funding Program grant of $50,000.

Building trades students from Holmesglen TAFE under the supervision of registered builders carried out the extensions to the pavilion.
