Don't touch that Dial

Quiksound Productions, the local Monash FReeZA group is running its last gig for the year - 'Don't Touch that Dial'.

The event has a fantastic band line-up headlined by Don't Ask Us who you can check out on Rove Live on Tuesday 17 October. Formed in 2005, this Melbourne-based pop/rock band has already established itself with a large fan base, entertaining crowds with a vibrant show.

"Don't Touch that Dial" also features several local bands including the runner up in the Monash Battle of the Bands heat Rick's Bar plus Little Athletics, Sober Phil, The Cosmonauts and Candy.

This event will be a great way to celebrate the end of classes for senior students in a safe environment and an opportunity for young music lovers to come and enjoy some excellent live music talent at a low cost.

"Don't touch that Dial" is an all ages, fully supervised, drug, alcohol and smoke free event brought to you by Quiksound Productions, FreeZA and the City of Monash. The gig will be held on Friday 20 October from 6.30pm until 10.30pm at Oakleigh Mechanics Hall, 142-144 Drummond St Oakleigh - just a short walk from the Oakleigh train station.

Entry is $8 with pass or $10 full entry. For more information or passes contact Brett or Shelley at Monash Youth and Family Services on 9561 7359.

Monash Recycling Its Way to the Top

The latest figures from Sustainability Victoria reveal that City of Monash households have one of the best recycling records in the State.

The City of Monash was placed second out of 77 municipalities for the percentage of household waste that was recycled for the year 2004/05. Monash recycled 54.7% of its waste compared to our neighbours Boroondara 44.6%, Glen Eira 27.1%, Greater Dandenong 32.2%, Kingston 48.1%, Stonnington 37.0% and Whitehorse 34.4% and the Statewide average of 37.9%.

While the result was good news for Monash, this excellent performance should only get better as the figures collected were for 2004/05, which was a year before Council introduced the new yellow lid 240-litre bin for a co-mingled recycling service in April 2006.

For information on how to get the best out of your recycling service, please phone 9518 3423.
