Focus on Monash's Young Filmmakers

Young filmmakers living, working, studying or just playing in Monash have the opportunity to receive public recognition for their art by entering this year's Monash Youth Film Festival.

To be held at the Glen Waverley Community Centre, Waverley Road, Glen Waverley, on August 11, 2006, the event will see shortlisted films screened for an audience before awards are made for best film, cinematography, sound and an audience choice award.

Monash Mayor Joy Banerji said the festival was an opportunity for filmmakers and film appreciators alike to participate in what will be a defining event for film in the City of Monash.

"From early indications, it looks like this year's festival will be bigger and better than ever," she said. "It is an exciting first step for budding filmmakers to showcase their artistic talents and hopefully will lead many of them to press on to a career in the creative arts."

The event is part of a larger ongoing project by some of the City of Monash's young filmmakers who make up RollPLAY Productions, a youth film group endeavouring to bring youth-relevant ideas to life through the medium of film.

The Festival is looking for short film entries (less than 15 minutes) from young people aged 12 to 25 who live, work, study or play in the City of Monash. Entries that sensationalise or promote unsafe or inappropriate behaviour will not be considered.

For more details about the festival and to access a registration form go to www.ravepage.org.au/filmreg.htm or call in to Monash Youth and Family Services, 14 Bogong Avenue, Glen Waverley. Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday, July 26 and there is no cost to submit a film or have it screened at the festival.

For more information about submitting films for the festival please phone Shelley or Bill, at Monash Youth and Family Services, on 9561-7359.
