Building to Start at Clayton Community Centre
Construction of the $25.7 million Clayton Community Centre is set to start following the official sod turning ceremony by Monash Mayor Joy Banerji and the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Member for Mulgrave, Daniel Andrews MP.
The Centre, the City of Monash's major current capital works project, is due to be completed by early 2008.
Cr Banerji said the Clayton Community Centre was designed to be an important community hub and a major civic focus for the area. The state-of-the-art facility would provide a range of community amenities and also hopefully kick-start a revitalization of the area.
"Council is providing $17.6 million and the State Government a total of $8.1 million in what is a unique partnership between local government and the State. On behalf of the community, I thank the Government for that support," she said.
Mr Andrews said the new $6.6 million purpose-built MonashLink Community Health Service within the centre was great news for local families.
"The new centre will see the full range of community services offered from one site including physiotherapy, podiatry, speech pathology and counselling," he said. "It will more than double the number of public dental chairs available and is another example of the Bracks Government's commitment to providing first rate health care when and where it's needed."
The State Government has also provided a $500,000 contribution as an Early Childhood Grant and $1 million as a Community Support Grant.
