Engineer Chang Now Calls Australia Home
Sudanese engineer Chang Wuol escaped his war-torn home country for a better life for his family - and found Australia.
The Zagazig University (Egypt) trained Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) graduate now has three Australian-born children, he and his wife have Australian citizenship and he is continuing his training and studies at Monash Council and Monash University.
"We are Australians now, Aussies," he says. "I still have family in Sudan but this is our home now."
Following his graduation in Egypt, Chang worked as a civil engineer in the construction industry in Sudan and then moved back to Egypt in a similar role.
He is halfway through a 15-week work placement assignment at Monash Council as a traffic engineer under a Victorian Local Government Association program to place overseas-qualified engineers with Councils.
At the same time he is doing a post-graduate course in infrastructure engineering and management at Monash University.
