Council Can Lend a Hand
Every weekday 130 Council Carers provide in-home and community based support for approximately 3800 Monash residents. Many of those being cared for are elderly, some have disabilities and some are recovering from a range of illnesses.
Whatever the case, the services provided by Council enable people to live in their home as long as possible, remain independent and maintain their dignity.
Council provides in-home support services such as Home Care, Domestic Shopping, Personal and Respite Care, Meals on Wheels, Home Maintenance and Spring Cleans.
Home care includes general house keeping tasks such as cleaning, mopping floors, vacuuming, hanging out washing, changing beds, and similar chores. Domestic Shopping is available for Monash residents where someone is needed to go out on an errand to do the weekly shop, pay bills or pick up pharmaceuticals, for instance.
Personal Care is provided by qualified carers, who can assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation and helping residents arise each morning and get ready for the day. Escorted shopping is available so the resident can be taken out by the carer to a local shopping centre and assisted to carry out their shopping.
Many residents who use the Council's services do have support from extended family but Council can provide additional assistance to supplement the care provided by family members. Respite care can be provided to family carers who need a break and would like to have some time for themselves.
Great Battery Roundup
The 'Great Battery Round Up' for 2006 is being held by RACV Batteries from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 14 October.
The purpose of the day is to encourage members of the public to bring any dead automotive batteries they may have lying around to designated RACV Service Centres throughout Victoria.
- Chadstone - Bowen Automotive Tyre & Brake, 67 Poath Rd
- Glen Waverley - Ask Automotive, Factory 1, 13 Aristoc Rd
For each battery collected on the day RACV Batteries will donate $1 to The Royal Children's Hospital. Last year more than 6,000 batteries were collected.
