Learning to Save a Life
The Older Persons Reference Group is organising a series of presentations of the innovative "4 Steps for Life" program developed by Ambulance Victoria. The program is aimed at Victorians over 50 years of age.
Each year in Victoria more than 3500 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. Tragically very few receive life saving CPR. If an ambulance is called quickly and CPR is applied before paramedics arrive, the victim's chance of survival dramatically increases.
Evidence shows that attendance at formal first aid or CPR training courses by people over 50 years of age is relatively low, despite the fact that those over 50 are particularly vulnerable to cardiac arrest. "4 Steps for Life" is designed to deliver CPR awareness to the over 50s through group education and participation.
