Focus on Oakleigh Ward
Cr Gerry KottekThe Monash City Council has many major activities occurring which will deliver improved and enhanced services and facilities to our whole community.
The Clayton Community Centre is progressing, the detailed planning for the Oakleigh Pool restoration is commencing and construction of the Mulgrave Neighbourhood Centre is underway. But some of the most exciting developments in our community are the smaller ones. These are the ones driven by the local community, where micro-community bands together for the betterment of the macro-community. Two examples are the Notting Hill Community House and Oakleigh Little Athletics track upgrade.
In both of these cases members of the local community have taken the lead to 'put back in' to their community. But there are many more examples. The trader associations of our shopping areas are further examples of where groups work together for the advancement of the broader community.
As we have seen with the extra-ordinary growth in junior soccer, there will be more demands for our limited resources, which will require sharing. I see this as very healthy as it will enable disparate groups to meet and work together.
