Healthy and Sustainable Gardens
Want to keep your garden looking vibrant and healthy this summer and cut your garden water use by up to 30 percent? Then tap into Monash's Healthy and Sustainable Gardens promotion.

You can also claim a $30 rebate off your next water bill if you spend $100 on mulch and other water saving measures by calling 136 186. Monash's Manager of Recycling, Joe Lunardello said that mulch and compost are terrific water savers and have many benefits for the home garden.
"They assist to reduce water loss by shielding soil from the sun and preventing run-off during rain or when watering. Mulch and compost also adds nutrients to the soil, retains moisture and prevents future weed growth," said Mr Lunardello.
When household green waste is collected, it goes to a processor where it is treated and made into quality compost or mulch, to Australian Standards. "This process not only creates a product for your garden, but also closes the loop on recycling and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Using recycled mulch and/or compost means the carbon content can be returned to the soil instead of going to landfill and escaping into the atmosphere," he said.
