Monash History Week

Two exciting local projects will be launched as part of the Monash History Week celebrations commencing on 25 June at Monash Federation Centre.

'A Time to Listen' is a Brentwood Secondary College DVD project featuring stories of local people captured on video by Year 10 students. Produced with the support of Monash City Council, Waverley Historical Society and Oakleigh & District Historical Society, the DVD is a celebration of storytelling, community commitment and local heritage.

History Week will also see the launch of 'Catch This!' an exhibition of childhood fun and games on display at the Monash Federation Centre until 28 September.

Monash History Week is a great chance to discover the local heritage of our area, learn about the lives of ordinary people and notable events that have helped to shape and develop our remarkable municipality.

Monash History Week will also feature the Oakleigh & District Historical Society's'Discovering Heritage' writing competition for schools, public demonstration sessions of the new Monash Local History Website, author Kristin Otto's talk on the history of the Yarra River and the Waverley Historical Society will hold alocomotive photographic displays and push pull steam train rides between Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley and Darling Stations.

Cr Charlotte Baines will officially launch History Week on 25 June at Monash Federation Centre, located in the historic precinct in Warrawee Park adjoining the Oakleigh Cemetery.
