Lights! Camera! Shorts!
They say it's not the size of a film that counts but what you do with your fifteen minutes of fame. Short films may not break box office records but they are the launching pad for budding filmmakers.
Monash Youth and Family Services Coordinator, Lucas Gosling said the annual short film festival has attracted amazing local talent, some of whom go on to successful careers in the film industry.
"RollPLAY Productions is a local film group for young people run at Monash Youth and Family Services. The group plan the festival each year and also work on short film projects," said Mr Gosling.
Last year 240 film fans packed-out the Glen Waverley Community Centre to celebrate the successes of 28 young filmmakers. The calibre of short films was extremely high, each film having a unique and creative edge.
Best film went to Leah de Niese, Rebecca Chisolm and James Aitchison with 'Cadence', their short about a man with a gift (or curse) for seeing death time codes over people's heads.
This year's Youth Film Festival is expected to be bigger and better with awards being presented for best film, cinematography, sound and an audience choice award. Filmmakers need to be under 25 years of age and either live, work, study, or play in the Monash area.
Entry of films into the Film Festival is free and close Monday, 9 July.
