Council Decisions at Its 7 August Meeting

CUSTOMER SERVICES
  • Council awarded the management and operation of the Oakleigh Recreation Centre to LeisureCo Pty Ltd for the guaranteed sum of $990,000 (including GST) for an initial three-year term.
CORPORATE PLANNING AND FINANCE
  • The report on the 2006 Census, outlining the demographic profile of the City of Monash, was noted by Council.
INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES
  • Council awarded contracts to Urban Maintenance Pty Ltd and The Graffiti Eater Pty Ltd for the removal of graffiti from Council assets for a period of one year for the combined contract value of $145,000.
CITY DEVELOPMENT
  • Council will request the Minister for Planning to appoint a panel to consider Amendment C65 to the Monash Planning Scheme, relating to the Monash Technology Precinct at Clayton.
  • Council voted to adopt a modified version of Amendment C59 to the Monash Planning Scheme, regarding the Wheelers Hill Neighbourhood Activity Centre, and forward documentation to the Minister for Planning recommending approval and gazettal.
  • Council agreed to place Amendment C66 to the Monash Planning Scheme, in relation to the rezoning of the former Monash Primary School site for residential purposes, on public exhibition.
  • A planning permit for the development of a warehouse building at 30-48 Duerdin Street, Clayton was granted by Council subject to specified conditions.
  • The report containing the Town Planning Schedules was noted by Council.
  • A tender by Comar Constructions Pty Ltd, to undertake the first stage of strategic drainage works in the Phoenix Drive Wheelers Hill area, was accepted by Council for the GST inclusive sum of $637,132.10.
  • Council agreed to name the open watercourse, flowing through Valley Reserve, Mount Waverley, Valley Creek in accordance with the Geographic Place Names Act 1998.
  • Council agreed to commence the statutory procedures for the proposed sale of Council land at 7 Lesay Court, Mount Waverley. A committee comprising of Councillors Dimopoulos, McGill, Kottek, Banerji, Brown, Klisaris & Morrissey were appointed to consider submissions received on the proposed sale.
  • Council agreed to commence the statutory procedures to discontinue the road status immediately east of Council owned land at 18 Cabena Crescent, Clayton and sell the land. The appointed committee will consider submissions on the sale of the land.
  • Council authorised a detail survey and subdivision investigation of Council land at the rear of 12-34 Sadie Street, Mount Waverley.
  • Council agreed to transfer to itself the remaining unsold parcels of discontinued road land abutting the rear of 579-589 Warrigal Road, 2-26 Montrose Street and 1-17 Temple Street, Ashwood. Council will enter into negotiations with adjacent property owners with the respect to the sale of this land.
COUNCILLOR'S REPORTS
  • Council approved the attendance of Councillors Brown and Shiell at the Australian Local Government Association's 2007 National General Assembly of Local Government, in Darwin, from 26 to 29 November.
