Monash Bulletin - 14 April 2007

Monash Makes Small Business Easier

New and existing businesses in the City of Monash will benefit from the improved online services launched this month by Council.

The Monash City Council is working with the Victorian Government to provide small business owners information from key federal, state and local government agencies to help them start, run and grow their business.

Simply by logging on to Victorian Business Information, businesses will be able to manage their compliance obligations with ease, manage registration, licenses and permits, interact with both the state government and the Monash City Council directly, obtain answers swiftly and more.

The Australian Tax Office, WorkCover, the State Revenue Office, Consumer Affairs Victoria and the Small Business Commissioner are some of the agencies currently involved and additional agencies will join the project as part of a planned rollout.

Having the scope to explore across government from a central location reduces the confusion that small businesses have often cited as a time consuming problem.

Interactive 'Step-by-Step' guides provide assistance for common business issues including general business management, supply chain management, workplace safety, working with suppliers, and staffing management.

The 'Ask a Question' service is designed to offer one place for businesses to find answers (online or by phone) rather than searching across many websites or calling numerous phone numbers.

Drawing on information gathered from across government most questions can be answered immediately, with more complex questions directed to an account manager for rapid response.
