Calling For World Environment Day Entries
Environmental heroes in the City of Monash will be awarded cash and prizes totalling $10,500 as part of the Monash World Environment Awards.
Sponsored by Monash City Council, VISY, Fasham, CETEC, and Maroondah Credit Union, the awards are designed to celebrate outstanding achievements in the Monash community in the pursuit of a more liveable and sustainable city.
They recognise the valuable contributions of individuals, households, community groups, corporations, small business and schools. Winners in each category will receive $1,500 in cash and prizes at a Monash World Environment Award ceremony in June.
"In this era of dramatic climate change, World Environment Day is an occasion to remember that we have a duty of care and responsibility to our children and future generations."
"It is our responsibility to ensure that the health of their environment is as good or better than the World in which we live today."
The judging panel will include community and Council representatives. Prizes will be presented to the winners at an evening ceremony on the United Nations declared World Environment Day, June 7.
The ceremony will feature a speech by Peter Malcolm, an ecologist and Antarctic explorer, who has visited the World's most southern continent fifteen times. There will also be displays by community groups, local businesses and Monash City Council.
Nominations for the Monash World Environment Day Awards close Friday, April 20.
Entry forms can be obtained from WED@monash.vic.gov.au, by phoning 9518 3555 or dowloading from

Silence Of The Guitars
Get your tennis racket out and start rehearsing! The first ever air guitar competition is about to rock the City of Monash.
The event for under 25s will feature hot local bands, and a line-up of aspiring Jimmy Hendrix & Angus Young's competing for great prizes and the inaugural Monash Air Guitar crown.
'Silence of the Guitars' is a smoke, alcohol and drug-free event funded through the FReeZA program, a Victorian Government initiative.
