Independent Living Units: The Secret To A Long Life
If you are after the secret to living a long and healthy life, the answer may be found at the Monash Gardens Village independent living units.
"We have six residents over 90 years of age in the independent living units," said Mrs Jean Howse, who moved to Monash Gardens Village in 1995 with husband Tom. "One neighbour is 96 and still living independently."
Said Mrs Howse; "My husband used to drive the 'green machine', which is our nickname for the village shuttle bus … others call it the 'Pope Mobile'. It would be wonderful to get some new 'young' drivers moving into the vacant units."
The architect-designed independent living units are charmingly spacious with a modern kitchen, front and rear verandas, single lock-up garage, security door, full landscaping and brick-paved rear terrace. The units have two bedrooms and come in a variety of floor plans.
"We absolutely love it here. Some people go for places with swimming pools and golf courses. We chose to move to the independent living units because while I was still capable of looking after myself, my husband needed the care offered by the aged facilities. At Monash Gardens Village we can still be together every day."
Priority is given to unit residents when they need either low and high level residential care. All units have a 24-hour emergency call bell, which is linked to the aged care facility and residents are eligible for Monash Council community services.
