Mayor's Christmas Message
Christmas, 2007
The Christmas spirit is truly alive and well in the City of Monash, with many businesses and residents turning on spectacular displays of festive lights and decorations for everyone to enjoy in the lead-up to Christmas.
When my wife Lorraine and I turned on our own Christmas lights, it was lovely to see dozens of people gather outside our Mount Waverley home to share with us the start of the festive season.
2007 has been a fabulous year for Monash and there is a feeling of high spirits in our multicultural community.
While many of us will be using the Christmas period to do exciting things that we have put off until now, as well as catch up with family and friends, there are a lot of people who will need the strength, support and kindness of complete strangers.
I'd like to thank the city's many charitable organisations and its army of tireless volunteers who have spent the last year providing valuable help and advice to some of Monash's most vulnerable residents.
The Christmas message of peace, hope and renewal has relevance and meaning for all of us, whatever our individual beliefs or faiths. The real importance of the season is generating peace and goodwill and caring about everyone in our community.
I wish you all a cracker of a Christmas celebration.
Councillor Tom Morrissey
