Focus On Mount Waverley Ward
Cr Tom Morrissey JPAlthough my duties as Mayor have been keeping me busy this year, I am very pleased to have conscientiously served Mount Waverley as a Councillor for more than ten years.
In that time I have seen much growth in our ward and the continued prosperity of the City of Monash. Recently, and investment magazine interviewed me about the significant growth of real estate in Mount Waverley.
Residents will soon receive their annual rates bill from Council. I am proud to say that I believe Council delivers an excellent level of service while manAgeing to hold rates down. In fact this year, Monash has the lowest average rates of any municipality in metropolitan Melbourne.
We are fortunate to have around 650 hectares of open space in Monash and many significant waterways such as Scotchman's, Gardiners and Damper Creek in the Mount Waverley ward. These areas have been restored through significant works by Council and are now seeing a return by native fauna species.
Over the last 10 years, it has been wonderful to witness the 11 hectare Damper Creek Reserve transformed with planting and maintenance work undertaken by both the Council and the Friends of Damper Creek Reserve.
This Sunday, I will join the Friends of Scotchman's Creek and a team of volunteers on National Tree Day to plant 10,000 native trees, grasses and groundcovers at Fairway Reserve in Mount Waverley. I invite you to join me in keeping the character of Monash as the Garden City by planting a tree on 29 July.
And finally, I would also like to congratulate the following Mount Waverley residents who received the Order of Australia Medal in the Queen's Birthday honour list last month: Dr John Gavan Fraser, Mr Gordon Edward Robert, and Mr Philip Stanley White.
