Focus On Mulgrave Ward

My vision for our city is to enhance, develop and brighten our community. And to achieve this effectively our city needs to lead the way in Victoria and show its commitment to improving the health and well being of all its citizens. I believe local government has a key role to play in improving public health.

And that is why I am delighted to have worked with my Councillor colleagues and community members to ban smoking in our playgrounds as of 1 July 2007.

This has been an important demonstration of Council's commitment to providing a healthier environment for our residents. I am very optimistic that the Monash community will embrace this initiative.

By minimising the exposure of younger people to smoking in these environments, we can dismantle the myth that smoking is a normal behaviour.

I look forward to our smoke free playgrounds.

I am proud we are the first Council in Victoria to implement such measures and am looking forward to other cities following our lead.
