World Environment Day Winners
The efforts of our citizens, schools, companies and other organisations in protecting and improving the environment were honoured at the recent Monash World Environment Day Awards presentation.
Anna Burke, Federal Member for Chisholm, joined international expedition leader and climate change advisor Peter Malcolm and Mayor Tom Morrissey in congratulating the winners at the sixth annual environmental awards program to be hosted by the City of Monash.
Councilor Morrissey said the celebration of the United Nations designated World Environment Day encourages us all to make a difference to the environment and live in harmony with our planet.
"This is an opportunity for Council and the community to acknowledge and celebrate the impressive achievements of individuals, households, community groups, institutions, business enterprises and schools," he said.
"Council has implemented a number of programs and projects that are aimed at promoting a vigorous local economy, a healthy, vibrant cultural environment, as well as developing social equity and community infrastructure."

Over 80 primary school students from Glen Waverley, Glen Waverley South, Highvale, Hughesdale, Mount Waverley North, Pinewood, and Syndal South participated in this year's School Poster Competition.
Responding to the theme 'International Year of Polar Ice', the Junior Poster winner was year one Highvale student, Clement. Hughesdale year four student, Damon Thomas received the Senior Poster Award.
