Monash Literature Festival
Authors Kate Holden, Dorothy Porter and Simmone Howell will host talks and workshops at the new Clayton Community Centre as part of this year's Monash Literature Festival.
Ms Holden will discuss her bestselling memoir, In My Skin, at the Clayton Theatrette on 7 May. First published in 2005, it is a compelling, beautifully written account of Kate's years as a heroin addict and prostitute in Melbourne.
On 22 May, Dorothy Porter will discuss 'Can Poetry Get Away With Murder'. Established as one of Australia's most exciting and innovative writers at an early age, The Monkey Mask, Dorothy's eighth book, won The Age Poetry Book of Year in 1994.
Join award-winning writer Simmone Howell on 8 June in a workshop for ages 12 -17 years, designed to develop short story writing skills and kick start entries for the Monash Short Story Competition.
Other festival highlights include writing workshops with Arnold Zable and Hazel Edwards, and author talks by Ilsa Evans, Nicki Greenberg and Barry Heard. There will also be poetry, songwriting and illustration workshops with Leigh Hobbs, Frank Jones and Terry Jaensch. Authors James Moloney and Maureen McCarthy will present talks to secondary school students as part of the Children's Book Week celebrations. The festival finale will be the presentation of the Monash Short Story Competition Awards in September.
Full programs and booking details are available from branches of the Monash Public Library Service or online at www.monlib.vic.gov.au
