Monash Awards Environmental Heroes
The Monash Sustainable Futures Forum presented the 7th Annual World Environment Day Awards on 4 June recognising the greenest households, businesses, buildings and community groups in Monash.
Awards were given in four categories and the winners are:- Sustainable New Building/Renovation - Harmony 9 by Mirvac
- Sustainable Business - Green Champions Committee - Southern Health
- Community Award - Syndal South Primary School
- Greenest Household Award - Mr John Harvey of Glen Waverley
The Harmony 9 House impressed the judging panel with the idea of the 'House For Life,' which is a home that incorporates an adaptable and versatile walling system that can be altered to grow and change with a family through all life stages.
The Green Champions Committee at Southern Health won their award for a detailed environmental plan to reduce energy and water use, which will see water saving of 5,644,000 litres per year and a comprehensive recycling program.
The Greenest Household Award went to Mr Harvey for going above and beyond the call of duty to reduce his own carbon footprint. Not only does he use sustainable appliances and systems for household energy and water including solar panel electricity and hot water, he has used no water from the mains supply since the first rainfall after summer this year.
