Road resurfacing

Monash Bulletin - 19 May 2009

Resurfacing Benefits Well Traveled Roads

Monash road crews have been hard at work preserving the City's roads, car parks and roundabouts and will complete their road resurfacing works in the next month.

This year, over 57,000m2 of roads were resurfaced, which is equivalent to about 9.5km of local roads.

Annually, Monash Council spends approximately $1.4 million on road resurfacing. If the roads that were resurfaced this year had to be rebuilt instead of resurfaced the bill would come in at around $10 million!

Manager of Transport and Infrastructure James Paterson said, "Resurfacing is the same as painting your window frames to protect the windows. It helps maintain the roads and it only has to be done once every 25 years so we don't need to replace entire roads. It costs a bit more than replacing the windows in your house, but it's a lot more cost effective than building new roads."
