Don't Waste A Drop
Saving Water In Monash
Did you know that both the Glen Waverley and the Oakleigh Golf Courses have drastically reduced water consumption over the past 5 years and each course now uses 30% less water?
Saving water is one of Council's top priorities, especially with the expectation that the State Government will announce Stage 4 water restrictions later this year.
"Council is leading the way with water conservation and it is great to see we have made significant savings. Council has also responded to the challenge in our parks and gardens, our recreation centres, our golf courses and across all council facilities," said Cr Klisaris.
"We've managed to reduce our water use dramatically over the last five years and we'll continue to strive for even bigger reductions to lead the community by example," said Cr Klisaris.
Monash Gardens, Elizabeth Gardens and Clarinda aged care facilities have saved 6,684,000 litres of water since 2004/05, which is a savings of 25% over the three facilities or the equivalent of 2.7 Olympic swimming pools.
The Monash Gallery of Art has reduced it's water use by a whopping 80% and Council's Depot and Works Administration Centre has been reducing its annual water consumption by an average of 36% per year since 2004.
Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre is a major water user, using over 10 million litres annually, but they managed to save 38% in the last financial year by encouraging staff and visitors to use water wisely and by making upgrades to their pools and amenities.
