Kirsty Murrey – Author Talk (Youth)

Kirsty Murray is a prolific writer of youth books. In her talk, Kirsty will discuss the creative process behind writing novels for younger audiences.
Kirsty's first novel won the WA Premier's Award for Children's Books Kirsty has written numerous books, including two titles for the NMA Making Tracks series, a futuristic novel, Vulture's Gate, is to be released this year.

Andrew Dyson – Comics in the Media

This is a fabulous opportunity to enter the witty and imaginative mind of a comic writer/illustrator.
Andrew Dyson draws and writes for The Age, which he joined in 1989. Initially employed as a pocket cartoonist, Dyson found his way onto the opinion page, for which he has produced many award-winning illustrations and cartoons.

Terry Denton – Illustration Workshop

Try your hand at illustration with this interactive workshop. This two hour session will involve developing characters using simple shapes. Terry Denton will illustrate his talk with rough sketches, storyboards and finished artwork.
Terry's work is characterised by a devious sense of humour and inventive drawing style.

Join Ann Blainey who's book, I am Melba was voted the Top Read for the 2009 Summer Read, as she discusses the process behind her work. Ann Blainey has written five biographies. Her most recent work, I am Melba, is a biography of the famous Australian soprano, Nellie Melba, and reflects her fascination with singing and opera. I am Melba was shortlisted for the 2008 Age Book of the Year Award.
