$1.5 Million in Community Support Grants

Monash City Council has allocated grants of $1,517,815 to 146 community organisations to assist in providing a broad range of services throughout the municipality.
The community groups have all demonstrated a capacity to deliver quality services and activities which respond to community needs and further Council's service to its community. The organisations allocated grants provide services for the aged, people with a disability, multicultural communities, children, youth and families or counselling and community support activities.
Grants totalling $709,400 were awarded for community partnerships, operational costs and for the delivery of new and innovative programs. A further 'in kind' contribution of $808,415 was allocated to groups for the rental of Council owned facilities, printing and hall usage costs.
"We do this to strengthen the capacity of communities, by involving a wide range of groups to improve social, learning, cultural, employment and economic opportunities and increasing local leadership," he said.
Some of the organisations to receive Community Support Grants include:- The Southern Ethnic Advisory & Advocacy Council who are being funded to support young people and their families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, residing, studying, and/or working in the City of Monash.
- Project grants to both the Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre and the Waverley Community Learning Centre to develop a men's support group to increase their participation in the community.
- Eastern Recreation & Leisure Services has been funded to deliver a program that utilises volunteers to assist people with disabilities to access mainstream sport and leisure opportunities.
- Mulgrave Neighbourhood House in association with the Notting Hill Community Association has been funded to deliver courses and activities in the newly refurbished annex at Notting Hill.
