Local Eateries Honoured For Food Excellence
13 November 2007
Monash Council has honoured 66 local premises for food excellence through its annual Golden Plate Awards held last night.
The awards, run as part of Food Safety Week, are aimed at promoting safe food handling and better nutritional choices amongst Monash eateries.
Monash Mayor, Tom Morrissey, presented all winners with a framed certificate and congratulated them on achieving excellence across a number of standards.
"Our eating habits are changing. Australians are becoming more health conscious, and at the same time, increasing numbers of meals are being prepared and consumed away from the home," Cr Morrissey said.
"We provide the Golden Plate Awards to encourage and recognise those food premises that are leading the trend towards better and safer standards of nutrition, hygiene and supportive environments."
The Golden Plate Award assessments complement more than 2,000 food safety inspections conducted by Council's Environmental Health Officers each year.
