Council To Approach Minister On Major Redevelopment At Glen Waverley Station
12 November 2007
Monash City Council will request the Minister for Planning to authorise the commencement of a planning amendment process that could see a major redevelopment of the forecourt of the Glen Waverley Railway Station site.
Mayor Tom Morrissey said today the proposal from VicTrack to redevelop the forecourt of the station with a multi storey building could bring the next major development impetus to the Glen Waverley activity centre.
" The proposal is for a multi storey building up to eight storeys high and containing shops, offices and residential apartments, so there is no doubt that it would bring a further boost to what has become a major activity centre for the eastern suburbs," Cr Morrissey said.
" Council must first request the Minister for Planning to authorise Council to prepare an amendment to the Monash Planning Scheme. If that is granted, a full public consultation process on the proposal will then follow.
" While Council is generally supportive of a mixed use development for the Hub Precinct, it will consider this proposal on it merits and take into account community reaction before making a final decision on the planning amendment."
As part of the amendment process, Council will require the preparation and approval of a development plan which shows the building with a maximum height of 8 stories, a minimum of two basement levels of on-site car parking, a design of architectural significance, sustainable and green building design, pedestrian access linking the station to a proposed pedestrian plaza and options for use of footpaths for outdoor dining.
