New Mayor for The City Of Monash
19 December 2007
Councillor Paul Klisaris has been elected Mayor for the City of Monash at a Special Meeting of Council last night.
He holds a degree in Social Sciences and a Diploma of Education. Beginning his career as a secondary college teacher, Cr Klisaris currently owns and operates a child care centre in Monash.
Cr Klisaris said that the past twelve months has taught him that "self criticism and honesty equal good governance".
"As Mayor, I will also bring a measured approach to the position. My promise to all rate payers and residents of Monash is that I will listen to your concerns and I will work very hard," he said.
Cr Klisaris also congratulated outgoing mayor, Cr Tom Morrissey for his leadership over the past 12 months and his predecessor Cr Joy Banerji.
"Cr Morrissey has done the job capably, effectively and passionately. This Council has been very effectively led over the past two years and I look forward to continuing their progressive approach whilst adding my own priorities and contributions."
Cr Klisaris is also a member of the Monash Gallery of Art Board, Electronic Gaming Taskforce, Ethnic Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, Mulgrave Community Development Advisory Committee and Multicultural Advisory Committee. He is married to wife Kathy and has three young children.
Councillor Dane Manzie was re-elected as Deputy Mayor.
