Amaroo Aerosol Art Mural Unveiled

25 February 2008

Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris praised the talents of young Monash artists in unveiling a wall mural at the Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre in Chadstone today.

Cr Klisaris said the Aerosol Art Project was funded through Council's Community Arts Grants and involved the creation of a mural on the car park wall of the Neighbourhood Centre by a group of young artists from ACTIVATE.

"This is a wonderful grass roots arts project which gave young people a great opportunity to work with professional artists to create a vibrant public artwork for everyone to enjoy," said Cr Klisaris.

Artists Christie and Peter Allison, who have extensive experience working with young people in creating community art murals, were responsible in overseeing the creation of the design and supervision of the project.

Cr Klisaris acknowledged the talent of the young people involved in painting the garden themed mural: Jarred Vergona, Liam Vergona, Michael Joyce, Josh Goetz, Ty Bailey, JJ Bailey, Shay Davidson-Thomas and Bradley Whitehead.

"The program was essentially designed to benefit the youth who had the opportunity to work with professional artists. I hope they have found the project to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience that encourages them to pursue their artistic talents into the future."

The project is a collaboration between Monash Youth and Family Services, the Amaroo Neighbourhood Centre and Council's Community Arts grants program.
